Sometimes we get in a blogging rut so we go to see what everyone else is doing to get a little inspiration. For me, sometimes this turns into a pitty party of things I'm not doing right. Then my blogging rut became a blogging hole I couldn't get out of. Who was I to think I could do this? Who was I to say 'hey, look at me! I've got something to say."?
Sometimes we let ourselves talk to, well, ourselves in a way we wouldn't let our friends talk to us! Have you noticed that? You are your own worst critic & you can talk yourself down in a second! Why do we do this to ourselves? I wouldn't let my friend talk to me or to themselves like that, so tell that discouraging voice in your head to shove off!
Here are 3 things you should try to avoid while blogging and you'll see how awesome you are:
Comparison - You are you & you need to stay that way! Comparing yourself - in readers, numbers, quality, etc - in order to feel bad about yourself isn't going to get you anywhere. Every artist was at once an amateur & every blogger started out with 1, 2, 7, 10, followers. Just keep blogging! Comparison is the thief of joy.
Thinking You Have Nothing Blog - You have a journey & a story to tell, start with that. Make your blog a scrapbook of your life, experiences you'd like to share with others, lessons you've learned, things you've made, & ways you've grown. Everyone likes to identify with someone else so share your story so you'll touch someone else!
Checking Stats Every 5 Minutes - It's just not helpful sometimes. Limit yourself to checking once a month to see where your traffic is coming from, what people have searched, and your most popular posts. That way you can readjust or keep on track for the next month. Checking everyday won't help, believe me, but checking occasionally can give you an idea of where you're going & where you'd like to be.
I hope you're enjoying your Sunday & will avoid these 3 things this week. Blog about what you love, you don't have to be someone else.
What gives you momentum?
Things that give me momentum:
ReplyDelete-Seeing other bloggers that are successful without being "followers"
-Finding out how to do some new code
-Using a blogging template for my weekly ideas
Thanks once again for sharing! I struggle with these things quite a bit. Haha.
This is great, I gotta share this. :)
ReplyDeleteHelpful tips. Anyway, comparison can be a good way to get motivated you know. At least to me, seeing how awesome other blogs are makes me try to make more great blog posts.
